ABRATIP – ASSOCIAÇÃO BRASILEIRA DE TERAPIA INTERPESSOAL

Website: https://www.abratip.com.br/

About the regional chapter:

The Brazilian Association of Interpersonal Therapy (ABRATIP) is a study community in Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) in Brazil, affiliated with the International Society of Interpersonal Therapy (“ISIPT”).

In 1995, Dr. Marcelo Feijó de Mello brought IPT to São Paulo, starting a study group with psychiatry residents to integrate them into a research project using IPT. The group continued at the Federal University of São Paulo, being active until now. The group evolved into an IPT course with supervision with many IPT supervisors, training many IPT therapists at the time. The group has an academic production with books and scientific papers published in journals with scientific impact, and some therapists conclude their Ph.D. and MSc in the area.

The group also has intervention in the community, working with vulnerable populations at risk in “favelas” in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and training mental health professionals in Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Our objective is the study, transmission, and dissemination, in addition to application and research in Interpersonal Therapy. Also, the training of interpersonal therapists and their members, pursuing a high scientific level in a space of freedom and creativity.
