Therapist Added Qualifications (AQ) Certification–IPSRT

Criteria

  • ISIPT membership required; membership must be renewed annually to maintain AQ certification.
  • ISIPT Therapist Certification is a prerequisite for AQ certification.
  • Any ISIPT-certified therapist may apply for AQ certification at any time, as long as the above criteria are met.

Application Requirements

Cover letter no longer than two pages, providing any information that will support IPSRT AQ Certification.

Attestation and description of two completed and supervised IPSRT cases representing early, middle and late sessions.

  • The attestation should include descriptions of two de-identified patient cases.
  • The applicant should provide a brief description of each patient’s/client’s presenting problem, case conceptualization, course of IPSRT treatment, IPSRT techniques/strategies used, and outcome The write up must be sufficiently detailed to allow the committee to assess the applicant’s experience using IPSRT.
  • An attestation should be completed by the applicant and co-signed by an IPSRT-trained supervisor confirming that (a) at least 8 hours of supervision per case was provided by the supervisor and (b) the information contained in the attestation is truthful and accurate.
  • The applicant may reuse cases that were submitted as part of their original IPT therapist certification application, as long as they were IPSRT cases.

Letter of recommendation from an IPSRT supervisor or trainer who has observed the applicant’s work and can provide feedback on his/her/their IPSRT therapy competencies.

  • The letter should describe the applicant’s IPSRT competencies and be sufficiently detailed to allow the committee to assess the applicant’s competencies as an IPSRT therapist.
  • The letter must include information about the number of cases and hours of supervision per case, method of evaluation (e.g., review of audio-recorded sessions, case discussions) and method of assessment for competency in use of IPSRT techniques and strategies.
  • Checklists or insufficiently detailed letters will not be accepted.

Documentation of participation in 8 hours or more of SRT training workshops or didactics

  • Only SRT didactic training should be documented here.  IPT expertise is assumed since IPT therapist certification is a pre-requisite for the AQ.
  • IPSRT trainings should be counted as half IPT and half SRT.  The latter half would count toward this requirement.  For instance, if an applicant completed the online IPSRT training (ipsrt.org), this 8 hour IPSRT training would count as 4 hours of SRT training.
  • Please provide certificates of completion of coursework when possible.

Process

Please submit all application materials as a SINGLE PDF to ipsrt@gmail.com with the heading “IPSRT AQ CERTIFICATION APPLICATION” AND YOUR NAME in the subject line.

  • If the documents are not merged into a single file, we will discard the application.
  • No additional fees are required for AQ certification.
  • Full applications will be reviewed by ISIPT certified therapists who have expertise in IPSRT.
  • Applications will be accepted and reviewed once per year, with relevant deadlines announced on the ISIPT listserv.
  • Notification to candidate will occur 10-12 weeks after the submission deadline.
  • All successful AQ applicants are strongly encouraged to join the IPSRT SIG and may be asked to review future AQ applications.
  • If AQ certification is denied, the committee will provide an explanation for the denial.  If denied, a new AQ application can be submitted during a subsequent AQ submissions period.

Maintenance of Certification

  • The ISIPT website will denote AQ in IPSRT on therapist listings as long as the applicant remains in good standing with ISIPT.
  • To maintain AQ certification, the therapist must stay up to date with all IPT therapist certification procedures, including renewals and maintenance of certification requirements.
  • Therapists must continuously maintain their membership in ISIPT to maintain their AQ certification.
